During the opening round of the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open, Will Zalatoris and Matt Fitzpatrick found themselves paired together again. The last time the two had teed it up, it was the final round of the US Open when they went toe-to-toe in a thrilling battle that eventually saw Fitzpatrick claim his first Major title.
There's a case to argue that the first round of the Genesis had equally as much drama with the golfing world witnessing one of the most remarkable shots in the history of he game.
On the par-5 16th hole, both players had come up short in two. Fitzpatrick played his chip onto the green first, rolling his ball to around six feet. What happened next has to be seen to be believed.
Luckily for both players, the rules allowed Zalatoris to lift his ball without penalty, Fitzpatrick could then move his marker so Zalatoris could putt out.
Both players successfully converted their putts before moving onto the next hole, perhaps contemplating the odds of what they'd both just witnessed.
