Trio qualify for The 151st Open after strong Wells Fargo Championship performances

Wyndham Clark, Michael Kim and Denny McCarthy have qualified for The 151st Open at Royal Liverpool through the Wells Fargo Championship.

Clark secured the first qualifying place after winning his first PGA TOUR title on a 19-under-par total of 265 at Quail Hollow.

Kim finished nine shots further back in seventh place to seal his spot at Hoylake, with those finishing above him on the leader board including Xander Schauffele, Harris English, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood and Adam Scott already exempt into this year’s Championship.

McCarthy and Brendon Todd were tied for eighth place on nine-under-par alongside the already exempt K.H. Lee, Max Homa, Corey Conners and Sungjae Im. It was McCarthy who took the final qualifying place thanks to his higher position in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Any golfer who has earned a qualifying place who then becomes exempt under one or more categories before the closing date of entries for The Open on 1 June will result in that place being awarded to the next non-exempt golfer, which will determined by a reserve list for each event played before this date.
