First team announced in new TGL league is Los Angeles Golf Club

It's been a busy 24 hours in the world of golf and the news just keeps on coming.

Next January will see the launch of Tiger Woods and Rory's McIlroy's new golf league TGL. Created in partnership with the PGA Tour, the exciting new 'tech infused' league will pit six teams of three players against each other in a custom-built arena that 'will combine a data-rich virtual course with a state-of-the-art short game complex.'

A multitude of stars from the PGA Tour have already signed up to compete in the high-energy format, including Tiger and Rory as well as John Rahm, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler and Collin Morikawa amongst others.

And now the first franchised team to take part in the league has been announced. The Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC) will be owned by tennis superstars Serena and Venus Williams along with Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian.

Alexis Ohanian said in a statement: “Los Angeles is the perfect home for our TGL team. This city embodies the intersection of sports, technology, and entertainment, making it an ideal backdrop for the innovation and excitement we aim to bring to the world of golf and its fans.”

The first-ever TGL season is due to tee off in January 2024 and will include a 15 match season with playoffs and a championship match.
