The final and oldest major of the year is nearly upon us. The 151st Open kicks off this week at Royal Liverpool Golf Club at Hoylake and will be played between 20-23rd July.
The last time the tournament was played here, Rory McIlroy claimed his one and only Claret Jug. Good vibes then for the Northern Irishman, especially since he just added the Genesis Scottish Open to his win tally this weekend.
With a star-studded field filled with the best-of-the-best in the world of golf, there's a whole host of names to pick from. The FLG Editor's are having a good run so far this season, let's find out which players they've gone for this week: Any player (at the time of writing) that is 25/1 or more by the majority of bookies is considered an 'outsider'.
"After a recent Scottish Open win and a previous victory at Royal Liverpool, it's hard to look further than Rory... but then we've said that many a time leading into a major! Cameron Smith can also be seen in a similar light given his performance at LIV London and for the fact he currently holds The Open title.
"If you're looking for value for money, look no further than Talor Gooch. A dry and fast Royal Liverpool could play to the strengths of one of LIV Golf's most consistent performers."
"After his win at the Scottish Open, Rory is an absolute lock in the "Favs" category. Rickie's captured the Rocket Mortgage Classic earlier this month and knows how to get it done on a links course having been a previous winner of the Scottish. Viktor didn't have a great week in Scotland but he's a major winner in the making and has a great shout at Hoylake.
"I'd love to see Tyrrell get over the line at a major, he's had seven top 10s this year across all tours, including a T6 at the Scottish. As they say, he's trending in the right direction!"
